A Journey through the Genealogy of Scent
An Intensive Olfactive Training Highlighting The Materials of Natural Perfumery
Time & Location
Oct 26, 2019, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
About The Class
Simultaneously an introduction and a deep dive, “A Journey through the Genealogy of Scent” is an Olfactive Fragrance Training which offers a deeply informative, uniquely personal, scent-immersion experience for every student.
Regardless of whether you are an industry veteran or perfumery novice, beauty entrepreneur, ceo, formulating chemist, marketing vp, vintner, brewmaster, artist, indie perfumer, olfactive consultant or simply curious, this all-day course will either lay the foundation or expand your current knowledge of the materials, processes and language of natural perfumery and scent development.
During this course, we will smell both notes and accords from each of the major fragrance families. Using smelling as our anchor, we will review and define the methods of extraction of raw materials, the importance of the language of Olfaction, a discussion of synthetic vs. natural raw materials, Olfactive creative development and functional perfumery performance (scent in various end-uses). We will overview the current regulatory environment and the challenges of developing scent in “natural” / “green” beauty brands. And finally, we will review the challenges of developing scent in odorous bases, ie: in topical applications with CBD beauty brands.
Please note: this is not a perfumery blending class. However, this course offers the foundational knowledge of smelling, evaluating, naming and cataloguing ingredients which are then used to create finished fragrances. Consider this Step 1 in your blending journey.
